Health care in central Colombia in financial crisis

National health care in Colombia’s central Boyaca department is on the brink of a financial collapse, a representative of the Cubara municipality warned Tuesday.

Without a hundred million dollar investment to overcome the financial crisis, as many as 10,000 inhabitants will be left without access to medical care beginning in August, representative Gildardo Murcia Señalo told Radio Caracol.

More than 109 hospitals are economically struggling whilehealth insurance company currently owes local hospitals $110 million.

Colombia’s national medical care has suffered billion dollar losses due to embezzlement and exploitation of flaws in the health care system.
