Colombia’s national airline Avianca announced to be purchasing 100 new Airbus A320neos in an attempt to revamp its fleet.
Avianca signed a memorandum of understanding with European manufacturer Airbus for a total of 100 Airbus A320neo aircraft , according to an announcement on Avianca’s website.
The new aircraft, which will be incorporated progressively into the fleet until 2019 as aircraft complete their contracted cycle until, are central to Avianca’s push to modernize their fleet.
The airline have, “a view to providing a more comfortable flight experience, while the company benefits from the advantages in efficiency and
productivity offered by this fleet,” according to their website.
“After a thorough technical evaluation, we decided to choose the Airbus aircraft A320neo, renowned for their efficiency in fuel consumption, reliability and comfort. All these factors are essential for further progress in our strategy of modernization and improvement of flight experience foor those who elect to fly Avianca in the Americas and Europe, ” announced Avianca’s CEO, Fabio Villegas Ramirez.
Avianca have been developing a relationship with Airbus consistent with their modernization strategy for several years now.
Avianca ordered 51 aircraft from the A320 family in 2012, 33 of these A320neo’s, according to their announcement.
Furthermore, the Avianca group have ordered over 200 Airbus aircraft in total, with 130 currently in operation.
The A320 family rank as the world’s best-selling single-aisle product line, with more than 11,500 orders to date and nearly 6,400 aircraft delivered to 400 customers and operators.
