If inline skating was an Olympic sport, Colombia surely would win a
fair share of medals. The World Championships started in Spain on
Thursday and Colombian skaters took their country to the top of the
rankings with two Golden and four Bronze medals.
Both the men’s and women’s Junior 300 meters time trial was won by
Colombians, with Pedro Causil and Carolina Magaña taking gold.
Causil needed only 24.531 seconds to finish the distance, with which
he beat the world record set by fellow countryman Gregorio Duggente in
2002.
Magaña finished second in the first run but beat her South Korean rival in the second to take the overall victory.
Colombians Daniel Zapata, Nelson Garzón, Jercy Puello and Sebastián
Arce all earned Bronze medals to help taking Colombia to the top of the
medal table after the opening day.
The 2008 World Championships are hosted by the northern-Spanish town of Gijón, and ends on Saturday.
