Colombians in Egypt to be evacuated

The Colombian government says it will send a plane to Egypt to evacuate Colombian citizens due to the political unrest that has gripped the north African country, reports Caracol Radio.

The plane will transport the Colombians from Egypt to Jordan to take refuge while the crisis is overcome in Egypt, Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Hoguin told Caracol Radio.

“The majority of Colombians [in Egypt] are employees of multinational companies who have been evacuated. In total there are 10 students who remain at risk. We have coordinated with the Chilean Foreign Ministry and we will share a plane leaving on Thursday from Cairo to Jordan.” Hoguin told Caracol.

The month of January has seen massive unrest in Egypt, as thousands of citizens have taken to the streets to protest against the rule of President Hosni Mubarak, who has led the country for 30 years.
