Colombian tennis player eliminated from Thailand Open

Colombian tennis star Santiago Giraldo lost in the second round of the PTT Thailand Open 2011 to Gael Monfils, the ninth ranked tennis player in the world.

After losing the first set 4-6, Giraldo came back and won the second set of the match 6-4, forcing a third set. Frenchman Monfils dominated Giraldo in the final set 6-1. The match lasted just short of two hours.

Giraldo beat 95th ranked Israeli Dudi Sela in the first round, winning 6-2 and 6-3. He scored on seven aces and committed no double faults in his commanding victory.

Twenty-three-year-old Giraldo currently ranks 52nd in the world.

According to newspaper El Espectador, the Pereira-born tennis player will now travel to Japan to compete in the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships.
