Colombian soccer player shot dead, teammate injured

A player from Barranquilla’s Uniautonoma Football Club was shot dead at a bar while a teammate remains in the hospital with four gunshot wounds, reported local media Sunday.

Alex de Avila was shot while chatting with friends at a bar in the municipality of Puerto Colombia near the northern city of Barranquilla. His teammate, Herly Alcazar, was shot four times and suffered two broken arms. He remains in stable condition at a hospital north of Puerto Colombia.

Witnesses reported that Avila was seen having a discussion with a group of people early Sunday morning. It remains unclear whether the conversation had anything to do with the shooting.

Police are looking for two men who were seen leaving the scene of the crime on motorcycles.
