Colombian skaters win world championships

Four gold medals on the final day of the roller speed skating World Championships ensured the Colombian team left South Korea as champions.

Professional skater Andres Felipe Muñoz added to his tally of medals, while the other golds came in the relay events.

The victories left Colombia with 19 gold medals, 18 silver and 6 bronze. Their 43 medals overwhelmingly beat out South Korea’s 34, giving them a 95 point victory over their host.

President of the Colombian Skating Federation Alberto Herrera Ayla was quoted in El Tiempo saying, “when these guys put on their skates, they transform into one country on wheels, because they know they are representing the federation, their families but, above all, a country that loves and feels skating.”
