Colombian singer Anabella wins Viña del Mar music award

Colombian songstress Anabella won the award for best folk performance at the 53rd International Viña del Mar Festival in Chile Monday.

While accepting the Silver Seagull, which is given out for this category, Anabella said “there are ways to show our folklore, now we must reach the world.”

Anabella performed “Mudanza de Piel” with the band Juglares on Sunday and received her award the following night.

Cali composer Andrea Botero wrote the song which, according to Colombian daily El Colombiano, was inspired by Anabella’s own life.

“‘Mudanze de Piel’ is my story,” said Anabella. “Last year I was ending a 7-year relationship and spoke with Andrea. We were in full production of the first song on my album when some friends told him my story and the next day as a gift, I had this song. This theme reflects that, despite what happened, I want to live and enjoy what I have.”
