Colombian security forces dismantle FARC arms factory

Colombian security forces dismantled a FARC arms factory Sunday in the southwestern Colombian department of Cauca, reported local media Tuesday.

The complex was in the rural municipality of Morales and belonged to the FARC’s mobile column Jacobo Arenas which operates in the region.

Security forces found an arsenal of weapons, including more than 200kg of explosives, mortars, tatuco bombs and antipersonnel landmines.

Military sources confirm that soldiers landed in the early hours of the morning and engaged in intense combat with at least 100 FARC guerrillas guarding the factory. No casualties or injuries were reported.

“This site has produced the largest number of unconventional explosive devices that they have used in the region. It is an important find,” said a local police spokesman.
