Colombian police seize 850 land mines

At least 850 anti-personnel mines have been uncovered by police in southern Colombia, local media reported Tuesday.

The devices were found in a cave during an operation aimed at damaging FARC mobile column Teofilo Forero, led by Ivan Dario Velasquez Saldarriaga, alias “El Paisa.”

Several guerrillas were also detained. One of the mission’s objectives is the capture of another rebel, alias “Sonia La Boruga,” who allegedly looks after the front’s extortion in the Huila and Caqueta departments. She is believed to be responsible for the kidnap of three Chinese oil workers in San Vicente del Caguan last June.
