Colombian police seize 6.5 tons of marijuana in Valle del Cauca

Police this weekend seized a total of six and a half tons of pressed marijuana in three separate operations in the western Colombian department of Valle del Cauca, reported Colombian media on Monday.

A truck carrying four tons of the drug from Corinto, Cauca, were intercepted by the metropolitan police on the road from Jamundi to Cali, and a further ton and a half was found packed in cardboard boxes aboard a vehicle traveling the Andalucia-Cerrito-Obando road. The truck’s 31-year-old driver, who is said to be from the central city of Pereira, has been arrested.

A final ton was later seized from a home in Marroquin, an eastern neighborhood of the Aguablanca district of Cali.

Police have indicated that the drug was intended for sale within the department of Valle del Cauca.
