Colombian police on Sunday dismantled a heroin network and seized 40 kilos of heroin in different operations across Colombia, reports Caracol Radio.
According to the anti-narcotics unit of the police, it received help of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and broke up a network dedicated to the traffic and sale of heroin to the U.S.
The operations took place in the departments of Santander, Risaralda, Cauca, Tolima and Cundinamarca, where 40 kilos of heroin was seized.
According to the police, the heroin is worth $6 million on the U.S. market.
In the operations, the officials arrested 12 people, including the alleged heads of the heroin network who were identified as the brothers Romulo and Ferney Andrade Lazo and Jorge Fabian Ramirez.
The U.S. has requested the extradition of three of the captured men.
