Colombian police capture alleged FARC rebel

Colombian authorities have captured an alleged FARC member in central Colombia supposedly responsible for the murder of three police officers and one soldier kidnapped by the group 10 years ago, reported local media Thursday.

According to police, the guerilla, alias “Luz Mary,” was ordered to kill the hostages in November 2011 after rebels discovered a planned joint rescue mission by the army and national police in the southern department of Caqueta.

‘Luz Mary’ is said to be the significant other of the head of the FARC’s 63rd Front, alias ‘Orlando Porcelana,’ who is also wanted by local authorities.

Libio Jose Martinez and Alvaro Moreno and Majors Edgar Yesid Duarte and Elkin Hernandez were slain after a failed attempt to rescue the men by the government. All four were honored with a state funeral.
