Colombians for Peace has demanded the FARC confirm allegations that they are holding French journalist Romeo Langlois hostage.
The peace group joined Colombian and French governments calls for Langlois’ release, after the FARC’s February pledge to end the practice of kidnapping civilians, newspaper El Tiempo reported.
“If Romeo is in your power, we welcome the FARC (…) to promptly release this journalist,” the peace group said in a statement.
The FARC allegedly seized Langlois last weekend during a gunfight between rebel and government forces in the southern Caqueta department, where Langlois was embedded with the soldiers.
“Given the doubts and versions that have been woven in the situation of the journalist, we asked the FARC to confirm, if possible in writing, if he is held by one of its fronts,” the peace group said.
The group also asked the government to avoid a military rescue if Langlois is in FARC hands.
Colombians for Peace, headed by former Senator Piedad Cordoba, helped to negotiate the April release of 10 hostages that were held by the FARC for more than a decade.
