Colombian online petition demands hostage release

Colombia Soy Yo, the organizer of several marches demanding the release of hostages held by the FARC, uploaded an online petition Monday to demand the captives’ freedom before Christmas.

The online petition followed marches that were held across the country last week in which thousands of Colombians demanded the FARC release their hostages.

The organizers of the marchers and petition are indignant because “despite the insinuations to free hostages, the FARC not only continue with their practice, but also killed these four people who had been kidnapped for more than ten years and who were in a complete state of helplessness.”

“We consider that the FARC are directly responsible for the lives of all kidnapped. Therefore, our demand is: SET THEM FREE RIGHT NOW…!” the petition says.

The petition is available in both Spanish, French and English.

The FARC are still holding ten members of the security forces captive. The rebel group also is holding an unknown amount of civilians hostage for extortion purposes
