Colombian novelty: hermaphrodite pig

It doesn’t happen every day in Colombia. Actually, it probably never ever happens, but in Bayunca near Cartagena a cattle farmer discovered one of his piglets was hermaphrodite.

The pig was born with eleven brothers and sisters and was discovered to have both testicles and a vagina recently.

“These cases happen rarely,” the local vet told newspaper El Universal. “Usually piglets like this are born dead, because they are disfunctional. They are not able to generate offspring.”

the pig, initially given the female name of Panchita but now called both Panchita and Panchito, is eating well and is in good health.
