Colombian Navy rescues 16 foreign tourists from wrecked yacht

The Colombian Navy rescued 16 tourists from a wrecked yacht off the Caribbean coast Tuesday, local media reported.

A break in the hull of an Austrian-owned catamaran forced the crew and passengers of “Fritz the Cat” to abandon the sinking ship after setting sail from Panama Monday.

The Colombian Navy rescued five Australians, three Germans, three Americans, two Norwegians, one Panamanian, one Dutch and one Polish citizen 45 nautical miles off the coast of Cartagena, a Navy official told local press.

The tourists have been transported to migration services in Cartagena–the cruise’s original destination–and are receiving medical care, the official added.
