The decision was taken after a diseased Colombian policeman’s mistress filed a lawsuit to claim her part of the man’s pension. She claimed the man had had an affair with her the last ten years of his life and therefore deserved compensation after the man’s death. The judge ruled the mistress and the wife have equal rights to claim the man’s pension, because both women, official or not, were his partners. The State Council’s judgement says the same rights should be taken into consideration for social security claims.
