Colombia president Juan Manuel Santos has announced an 8.9% reduction in the rate of natural gas for Colombian industries in new decree.
Speaking Wednesday at the 16th Congress of the Colombian Assosciation for Natural Gas (Naturgas) in Cartagena, Santos declared that the government contribution towards the 8.9% reduction “has made many of our industries more competitive.”
The head of state explained that this was part of five measures adopted by the government to ensure that Colombian industrial output is not limited by any lack of transport capacity from the places of production. The project has reportedly increased industrial capacity by some 233 million cubed feet of natural gas a day; the equivalent of one fifth of the entire country’s consumption.
The president also announced that a new decree will be set up in the coming days, ensuring that “all industries- without exception- will be able to take advantage of this benefit”, adding that this measure demonstrates the government’s commitment to reducing costs for its industrial sector.
