Colombian hotels see revenues rise 3.8% in July

Colombia’s statistics agency DANE announced Monday that revenue for the country’s hotel sector grew 3.8% in July compared to the same month last year.

According to the DANE report, revenue grew 5.3% in the first seven months of the year compared to the same period last year.

The hotels reported that occupancy rates rose to 53.7% (vs. 52.8% in July 2010) and room rates were generally 2% higher across all types.

The majority (53%) of foreign visitors staying in Colombia’s hotels did so because of business. 36.6% for leisure, 6.2% because they were attending a congress and 4.3% for “other reasons.”
