Colombian gas exports to Venezuela to rise

Colombian natural gas exports to Venezuela will rise to 250 million cubic feet a day by March, said Colombia’s mining and energy minister, Hernan Martinez, on Wednesday.

Colombia’s state-controlled oil company Ecopetrol SA (ECOPETROL.BO) partners with Chevron in shipping natural gas to Venezuela.

In late October, Ecopetrol and Chevron reduced exports to Venezuela to about 70 million cubic feet a day, down from about 220 million cubic feet a day previously.

The reduction in the gas exports from Colombia to Venezuela has coincided with a diplomatic clash between the two countries. An Ecopetrol spokeswoman said November 6 that the drop in sales to Venezuela was needed to meet rising demand in Colombia. (Dow Jones)
