The Colombian embassy in Argentina on Monday issued a formal complaint over alleged police brutality against Colombian nationals who visited a soccer game between the two countries in Buenos Aires.
“Thousands of Colombian citizens who traveled to Argentina exclusively to see the football game were affected by the treatment of the authorities without there being a single reason to take measures.”
According to the embassy, various Colombians were denied entry to the game despite having bought proper tickets. Meanwhile, a group of Colombian women said to have been beaten by Argentinian police, a claim supported by local Argentinian media.
The embassy considered the actions of the Argentinian police “detrimental to human dignity” and thanked the Argentinian media for drawing attention to the maltreatment of Colombians on the behalf of the Argentinian security forces.
“We want to thank the Argentinian communications media and all the people of this brother country and the manifestations of solidarity we have received in regard to these sorrowful happenings, a gesture which highlights the nobility of the Argentinian people, who have always embraced us with generosity and affection,” the embassy said.
