Colombian directors honored at AXN film festival

Two Colombian short films won top prizes at the AXN film festival in Mexico earlier this week, where they were competing against film-makers from Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica and Mexico.

The Colombian films Marina, the Fisherman’s Wife and Rojo Red earned first and second prize at the festival respectively El Espectador reported.

Carlos Hernandez, director of Marina, the Fisherman’s Wife, was also recognized at the International Festival for Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao and at the Miami Short Film Festival for the best environmental film.

Juan Manuel Betancourt, director of Rojo Red, has also earned recognition in international film festivals from Canada, Cartagena, Greece, Uruguay and the US.

The contest’s judging panel included a talented cast of characters, among them directors Carlos Cuaron, Simon Brand, Alex Brendemuhl, Eduardo Noriega, writer Fina Torres, actors Diego Luna, Gael Garcia Bernal, Daniel Gimenez Cacho ( La Mala Educacion, La Invencion de los Cronos), and actress Celia Roth (Todo Sobre mi Madre, Hable con Ella).
