Colombian designer wows Dior, Chanel (photos)

Iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld recently named Colombian designer Haider Ackermann as his preferred successor at Chanel.

The young Colombian designer is the name on everyone’s lips in the world of fashion right now, receiving worldwide acclaim for his edgy, avant garde designs. Not only has he received acclaim from Lagerfeld, the top designer at Chanel and one of the most influential designers in the world, he has also been tipped to take over from John Galliano at Dior.

Ackermann’s designs use little color and are often somber, but always stylish. The bespectacled designer presented his Autumn Winter 2011 collection and Paris fashion week to open mouths and wild applause from the audience.

His designs all incorporate his emblematic style, typified by the draping and wrapping of deep, dark colours to create sharp sexy lines, assisted by the cinching at the waist of thick leather belts.

It seems the sky is the limit for Ackermann, who has dressed stars such as Lady Gaga and Tilda Swinton.
