Colombian cyclist Soler discharged from clinic

Colombian cyclist Mauricio Soler was discharged on Friday after three months at the Clinical Center of Pamplona (Spain) for nearly fatal injuries suffered during a hard fall in last June’s Tour of Switzerland.

In an interview with Mundo Ciclistico, Soler’s wife Patricia Florez said, “We are very happy because today marks a further step in Mauricio’s recovery… Mauricio is getting better, and this fills us with joy after so much uncertainty during this time,” newspaper El Tiempo reported.

The cyclist suffered multiple fractures and hematomas including bleeding of the brain after hitting a curb and flying over the handlebars into a pole. He was in critical condition for five days for the life-threatening injuries before being airlifted to Pamplona where he lives.

Soler will start an outpatient recovery process with work sessions in the gym.

Florez added that her husband is highly motivated and continues to improve daily.
