Colombian cyclist Fabian Puerta qualifies for Pan American Games final


Colombian cyclist Fabian Puerta has qualified for the Kierin – sprint race starting with nine cyclists – final at the Pan American Games.

Puerta, who won the silver medal in Wednesday’s sprint final, will hope to go one better this afternoon as he faces the United States’ James Watkins, Flavio Cipriano from Brazil, Leandro Botaso from Argentina, Hersony Canelon from Venezuela and Chilean champion Javier Mansilla.

Colombia will also be represented in the ladies Kierin final, with Juliana Gaviria and Diana Garcia both competing for the gold.

Elsewhere, Lorena Vargas is currently in fifth position overall in the Ladies Omnium, having finished the 3,000 metre individual pursuit event in fifth with a time of 3:47:282. The winner of the event was Canada’s Stephanie Roorda, with a Pan American record time of 3:37:544.
