Colombian creates facebook for dogs

A Colombian engineer created a social networking site, similar to the popular Facebook, but for pets.

The website, mypetbum.com, offers the possibility for pet owners to have their own profile, look for friends for their pets, buy pets, report missing pets and take part in pet forums.

“It’s an advanced form of interaction: people who participate in the
forum do so because they are telling a story,” site founder Paul
Becerra, an industrial engineer and journalist, told newspaper El Espectador.

Becerra said the idea for a site came after a friend owning a boxer
dog whose type is rare in Colombia was desperate to find a partner for
the pet.

After the first 500 users signed up in Colombia, Becerra
obtained a new server to boost access, with hopes to make the site a
regional model.

“In Latin America, there is nothing like this,” he said.
