Colombian crashes out of Australian Open

Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo has lost in straight sets to Croatian Marin Cilic in the second round of the Australian Open tennis match in Melbourne.

The 23-year-old Colombian matched his 2010 performance at the first Grand Slam event of the year by reaching the second round but could not find a way past the six foot six inch Croatian, who is the 15th seed and reached the semi-finals at this event last year.

The final score was 6-1 7-6 6-3, as Giraldo, the world No. 59, rallied in the second set but ultimately could not find a breakthrough.

Giraldo’s exit means that there are no more Colombians left in the draw following Alejandro Falla’s straight sets defeat to Feliciano Lopez in the first round.
