A Colombian farmer is hoping to make it into the record books after one of his chickens laid a giant egg.
The egg, which at 8.6oz is about four times the average size, was laid by a hearty hen named Franciscana.
We hope Franciscana’s okay, given that this 5-year-old little lady is a regular-sized chicken and until now has only produced normal-sized eggs — where on earth did this (unhatched) baby come from?
Proud owner Hernando Niño, who’s been farming for 20 years, told news network Terra he was planning to contact the the Guinness Book of World Records to see if the chicken’s magnificent offering could make history.
Niño said, “It’s the first time as a farmer I have seen an egg of this size. The egg will stay in a glass case for people to see and so it is preserved.”
Shame…just imagine the omelette you could make.
