Car sales in Colombia rise to record highs

Car sales in Colombia for April reached 24,364 an increase of 34.7% compared to April 2010 according to a report by economic analyst firm Econometria, El Espectador reported Thursday.

Econometria stated that although this figure is slightly lower than recent months, which may be accounted for by the Easter holidays, April sales are some of the highest on record.

During the first four months of the year, vehicle sales amounted to over 100,000 units, a figure which has never been reached before. The number of cars sold over the first four months of 2011 rose by 52% when compared to the same period of 2010.

Econometria estimates that by the end of this year the number of cars sold will reach 290,000 units.
