Colombian beauty queen is victim of violent attack

The reigning queen of the Bambuco beauty pageant was attacked by a motorcyclist in the southern department of Huila Sunday.

Linda Jaqueline Pardo Monj, her boyfriend and mother were travelling by car in the city of Neiva to go pick up the pageant winner’s gown for a coronation ceremony affirming her as the Queen of Bambuco 2012, when a motorcycle taxi driver cut them off and started beating her and her boyfriend.

“I was in my car, not driving, I was in the passenger seat(…) The traffic was terrible in Neiva. My boyfriend was driving through the traffic jam when a motorcycle hit us but it did not seem serious. Suddenly, the man from the bike got out and started insulting [my boyfriend] and kicking my car. We complained and he punched me in the face and dealt several blows and kicks to my boyfriend,”  said Pardo.

During police questioning the man said he was angry that Pardo’s vehicle struck his motorcycle during the traffic jam.

Pardo’s boyfriend, Fernando Rivera Ruiz remains in the hospital recovering from the incident.
