Colombian baby auctioned on the internet

by Katharina Wecker June 2, 2009

Colombia news - IE7

A Colombian baby of approximately two-years was allegedly auctioned on
the internet with a starting price of one million pesos, around US$ 500.

The Police is trying to identify the child, whose photo appeared on a portal for buying and selling things and is investigating whether the authors of the offer are members of a slave trading network.

Freddy Bautista, head of the Police Department for Computer Crimes, said that they also investigate the possibility that the photo is only a decoy to lure potential buyers, El Espectador reported Tuesday.

The Dijin also launched an investigation against the owners and administrators of the website because “they are also committing a crime by publishing this offer”.
