Illegally mined gold and platinum seized in western Colombia

Investigators have seized almost 5kg of gold and 800g of platinum on a boat in western Colombia, according to a press release.

The minerals, estimated to be worth more than $282,000, were allegedly mined illegally from the San Juan de Micay river, near the border of the Cauca and Valle del Cauca departments.

A team from Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s office carried out the operation.
