Half ton of cocaine seized on Colombian island

A half ton of cocaine was found on the island of Providencia in a joint operation between the Colombian navy and the intelligence agency, the Department of Administrative Security (DAS), Caracol Radio reported Monday.

Authorities found the alkaloid in an abandoned house. The estimated black market value is $12 million.

The navy released a statement explaining that the cocaine “was bound for a storage facility somewhere in Central America to be subsequently sent to the United States and Europe.”

The seizure is the first major drug discovery on the overseas Colombian island.

No one was detained in the raid.
