Colombia seizes $12M worth of assets from drug lord

Colombian authorities on Tuesday seized 32 assets worth a total of $12 million allegedly belonging to extradited Norte del Valle cartel capo “Chupeta.”

Vehicles, commerical and private properties, and other “hot” goods belonging to Juan Carlos Ramirez Abadia, alias Chupeta, and his family were claimed by agents from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The assets believed to have been purchased with drug money were registered under the name Reinaldo Suavita Henao, and were seized in Cali, Jamundi, Valle del Cauca, and Cartagena. Close to 80,000 in euros were previously confiscated from his sister Claudia Suavita Henao as she entered Colombia from Brazil.

Following his arrest in Brazil in 2007, Chupeta was extradited to face charges in the U.S. and is currently in jail in New York City.
