Anti-narcotics police have arrested one of the final fugitives from the now-defunct Cali cartel, El Espectador reported Friday.
The cartel’s Walter Javier Castaño Duque had been hiding from the law, with an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and a prison sentence of six years, eight months in prison, determined by a Cali court, awaiting him upon capture, for the crime of drug money laundering.
Castaño is said to have laundered over $3.4 million and served as an assistant to the head of the disbanded cartel, drug trafficker Helmer Herrera Buitrago, alias “Pacho Herrera.”
Authorities reportedly captured Castaño based upon information received from an intelligence source.
