Colombian aid worker kidnapped in Yemen

Six aid workers, including one Colombian, were kidnapped Tuesday in the Mahwet province of Northern Yemen, reports the newspaper El Espectador.

In its report, Yemen’s Interior Ministry said the hostages worked for an international humanitarian group but did not give the group’s name. The report offered few details about the operation, stating only that the group was attacked by tribal militants near Yemen’s capital Sana’a.

The kidnappers are calling for the release of a tribesman who is being detained in the capital’s central prison.

Kidnappings in Yemen have increased in recent months; this attack comes only five days after a Norwegian hostage was released after 15 days of capture.
