Colombia withdraws extradition request for wife DMG director

Colombia withdrew the extradition request for Johanna Ivette Leon, the
wife of DMG director David Murcia. According to Colombia’s Prosecutor
General, the Uruguayan terms for extradition are unacceptable.

According to Prosecutor General Mario Iguarán, the extradition terms “mean that we can not prosecute her for the crimes of money laundering, illicit enrichment, which would result in impunity.”

Instead of pushing for extradition, Colombian authorities now asked Uruguay to not extend the visa of León, so she will be forced to move to another country, where hopefully there is an extradition treaty with Colombia.

Meanwhile, the PG hasnm’t dropped the case against Murcia’s wife. “We willnot give up the criminal investigation. We have strong evidence to support the accusations,” Iguarán said.
