Colombia’s comptroller general plans to form an anti-corruption search bloc under the umbrella of President Juan Manuel Santos’ administration’s Anti-Corruption Statute, El Espectador reported Friday.
According to Vice Comptroller General Alvaro Miguel Navas, eleven experienced staff members will lead the specialized anti-corruption search bloc, a new body which will have access to forensic procedures, classified documents and international resources in order to fight corruption.
Navas explained that members of the anti-corruption search bloc will receive generous salaries in order to ensure their loyalty.
The comptroller’s initiative is expected to be approved in less than two weeks.
The text for the proposed Anti-Corruption Statute was approved unanimously by a plenary session of the House of Representatives at the end of May. The pending law seeks to seal shut the “revolving door” between the public and private sector by prohibiting those who finance political campaigns from being contractors for the state.
