Colombia wants to host Cycling World Championships

The International Cycling Union (UCI) accepts Colombia as a candidate to host the 2015 Road World Championships.

Colombian cycling federation president Jorge Gonzalez announced the news, saying that he explained the plans in a meeting with UCI chairman Pat McQuaid.

According to Gonzalez, the UCI supports the idea as it aims to discover new markets in different parts of the world.

“The next step will be to talk to Coldeportes president Jairo Clopatofsky and the republic’s president, Juan Manuel Santos,” Gonzalez said.

According to protocol, McQuaid will visit Colombia to be informed first hand and speak with the government, once the official bid is received.

Colombia hosted the event once before, with Duitama receiving the world’s top cyclists in 1995.
