Colombia-US flight evacuated after fire fears

Passengers aboard a Spirit Airlines flight between Colombia and Florida were forced to evacuate the plane moments after it landed at its destination on Sunday, due to reports of smoke inside the aircraft.

According to El Pais, staff were alerted to the presence of smoke in the Airbus A-319 during its landing at the Fort Lauderdale international airport.

The flight’s 99 passengers were hurriedly evacuated using the emergency slide. Three people were hurt in the process, two of whom were taken to hospital for treatment.

Firefighters inspecting the plane found no signs of burning or smoke.

Authorities are investigating the incident further.
