Colombia to relaunch security policy: Minister

Colombia’s interior and justice minister said Friday that the government will relaunch its security policy to counter guerrilla attacks in the countryside as well as soaring violence in cities.

Minister German Vargas Lleras told RCN Radio that the government was shocked by the death of fourteen policemen in the southern Caqueta department on Wednesday.

To counter guerrilla attacks like the one in Caqueta and improve the deteriorating security situation in cities “the government will relaunch its citizen security policy,” Vargas Lleras said.

The minister announced in August the launching of a “citizen security policy,” intended to combat rising violence in the cities.

President Juan Manuel Santos earlier announced a military summit following the deadly FARC attack.
