Colombia to be a threat in 2010: Chavez

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez foresees 2010 to be a difficult year for Venezuela, mostly because of U.S. military presence in neighboring Colombia.

In an opinion piece published in several Venezuelan newspapers on Sunday, the leftist president announced “it will not be an easy year.”

According to Chavez, an international conspiracy is ” preparing the script to reverse the process of emancipation the Americas are undergoing.”

The Venezuelan Head of State earleir expressed that he considers a signed U.S.-Colombia pact allowing the Americans to use Colombian military bases and airports in the war on drugs a threat for Venezuelan sovereignty. Relations with Colombia worsened over the course of 2009.
