State Council suspends adoption of Europe digital TV standards

Colombia’s State Council on Wednesday suspended the implementation of the European terrestrial digital TV standard DVB-T due to a “procedural error,” reports Semana.

The National Television Commission board decided to adopt European digital TV standards, but according to the high court, the board failed to carry out the necessary procedure to formalize the decision.

Minister of Information and Communications Technologies Diego Molano explained that the suspension by the court is only a formality, and will not stop the process, Caracol Radio reports.

Molano said that before the end of the year, digital TV will cover 5% of Colombia.

Colombia hopes to receive €30 million ($39.3 million) over the course of four years from the European Union to implement the system in the country.

The minister said that the country continues to await a favorable response from the E.U.
