Colombia social democrats to meet with Correa

A delegation of Colombia’s main social democratic party Polo
Democratico will travel to Ecuador to meet with the country’s President, Rafael
Correa.

The trip comes at a moment when there seem to be possibility for a rapprochement between the two countries, close to one and a half year after all relations were cut following a Colombian bombing of a FARC camp on the Ecuadorean side of the common border.

However, Polo Democratico says the visit — planned Friday — has nothing to do with the strain relations, but is to strengthen the ties between Polo Democratico and Correa’s leftist Alianza Pais movement.

“This meeting has to do with teh relation between party and government, because of the Polo’s need to strengthen socialist ties, not only with Ecuador and Venezuela, but also with other parties of the same tendency in Latin American countries,” Congressman Alexander Lopez told newspaper El Espectador.
