Colombia seeks extradition of FARC ‘ambassador’ from Switzerland

Colombia’s prosecutor general is seeking the extradition from Switzerland of a Colombian citizen, who is accused of being the FARC’s “international ambassador.”

Prosecutors accuse Omar Arturo Zabala, alias “Lucas Gualdron,” of financing the FARC, based on evidence found in the computers of deceased FARC leader “Raul Reyes,” who was killed in 2008, and whose e-mail correspondence has led to the prosecution of a number of suspected FARC aides.

Lucas Gualdron was due to be officially charged Wednesday, but proceedings were postponed due to the lack of an available prosecutor.

Colombian prosecutors requested in January that international police organization Interpol detain Lucas Gualdron.
