The Colombian Soccer Federation (FCF) decides to keep the coach of the under-20 national team despite a disappointing showing in the recent South American Championship.
Eduardo Lara will remain in his position as coach until at least the end of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which is to be held in Colombia between July 29 and August 20 of this year.
It is just as well that Colombia are hosting the tournament, given the automatic qualification that comes with it, as the Colombian youth team would otherwise have failed to qualify.
In the recent South American Championship played in Peru, Colombia finished bottom of the final group stage with only one point and a single goal after five games.
They had previously scraped through the first group stage with one win and two draws, yet their performance in the final group stage means that they will not compete at the 2012 London Olympics.
Lara, who led the under-20 national team to victory in the same tournament back in 2005, has been kept along with his team of coaching staff.
