Colombia retains 5th place in FIFA world soccer rankings

Colombia retained its fifth place on the FIFA Soccer world rankings with a relatively comfortable lead over England, in sixth place.

Colombia, with 1164 points, vaulted themselves up from eigth place to fifth in December, a position they have managed to hold well into January.

The team is only one point behind Italy, but they are still a long way behind first place Spain who has reigned supreme for 17 consecutive months.

Colombia earned a massive influx of points and a meteoric rise in 2012 thanks to six wins, one draw, and just one defeat. Since December 2011, the South American team has accumulated 455 points and rocketed themselves up 31 places. This is the second time Colombia has been awarderd “mover of the year,” the first occurring in 1993.
