Colombia re-elected to join the World Tourism Organization

Colombia’s Deputy Tourism Minister, Oscar Rueda, announced that this distinction, offered to Colombia by an organization as important as the WTO is “further evidence of the positive progress that tourism is making throughout Colombia”, reported news site Dinero on Thursday.

Following the rigorous vote, the two available Council places were awarded to Argentina and Colombia, after Colombia’s initial draw with Costa Rica. Colombia won the second round against Costa Rica with nine votes to six.

The Executive Coucil comprises of 30 members who are elected by the General Assembly with Spain, as the host country, holding a permenant position.

The Council represents the folloing zones : Africa, America, Southern Asia, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe and the Middle East.

The mandate of each nation member is four years and every two years there is a renewal of half the participating nations.
