Colombia rainy season death toll set at 303

This year’s rainy season has killed 303 people and has left more than 2.2 million victims in Colombia so far, authorities said Saturday.

According to President Juan Manuel Santos, this year’s rainy season is ” the worst natural tragedy in the history of our republic”

The hardest hit by the extreme weather are the northern departments of Bolivar, Cesar, Magdalena, Atlantico, Guajira, Cordoba, Sucre where half of the victims are from. The Bolivar department alone counts 400,000 flood victims.

The governors of the northern departments met in the coastal city of Cartagena on Sunday to discuss the emergency situation.

The Government estimated the rains, floods and landslides have left more than $6 billion in damages so far.
